What is audience?

Engage and interact, participate consume art in a way, theatre or gallery

The arts?

The creative industries create jobs through talent and generate talent, defined by 9 sectors

Why understanding audiences important?

The audience is the enganger of ones work and produce the meaning of the work

The reader of the text is as important as the artists and not only the artist is able to render the meaning of the work explicit, its also the audience that sets and declares the meaning of the artwork

It also helps the artist understand the work

in a piece of work i have made, who was my audience? sorry we wont be long! project aimed at the every day person who is a lazy hypocrite that doesn't help climate change

What is Audience Engagement?

active participants, co producing work, audience member, as readers, as participants in research - how the art council define audience engagement

Audience Diversity

empowering people by celebrating what makes them different, seeks to understand difference

Why? Makes art more accessible despite of race class gender etc

Themes of consumption from different socio economic backgrounds

Risk of making class based stereotypes

sometimes the desire to make art for everyone can inhibit the [rpcess of creation for the artist

Pause and Reflect

Who was missing from the arts audience i most recently took part in? Theatre, i did not feel anyone was missing, i was there to enjoy the performance for the story and creativity and an escape of reality. I wasn't focusing on how it relates to the real world.

Different Ways to be an Audiences

Audience as Spectator, the person or people who look and watch at the piece of work. This act of beholding through the spectacle

The act of spectating each other online is essential for the separation of us. We are consuming the images we see, not taking part of them, passive consumption

When did you have an interesting experience as an audience at an arts event? what did they ask of you and how did you engage with the work?

Tate Modern, Film about Australia and climate change, an educational film that made me sit down and take the time to recognise what is going on and learn from it
